A Point in Every Direction is the Same As No Point At All

July 30, 2007

Ever try to be something for everyone and find no one wants it? Do you have trouble finding the time to focus on your business? Do you do so much for so many that you find it’s difficult to make any financial progress in your business; much less make an indelible mark in the mind of your potential customers? I found myself on that road so many times, that I could be a tour guide for Please-want-me-ville.

Where did this come from and how can you get it to stop?

It starts publicly when we’re very young… at school. A moment emblazoned in my mind was in Mrs. Moon’s kindergarten class. I had just discovered a squirreled stash of my favorite food, Pepperidge Farms Goldfish Crackers, in the front pocket of my patchwork dress. I squealed with delight and proudly started munching on them in the middle of “two plus three”. My delight turned to horror when I heard, “Miss Castle, I hope you have enough for everyone or you will stand in the front of the class with your face in the corner!”

Selling Ebooks for Dummies

Selling Ebooks for Dummies
 by: Peter Timko

Ebooks. It seems like they have been with us for some time now. At the beginning of digital technology it was predicted that digital books - Ebooks would replace conventional printed books. Obviously this is not going to happen at least not too soon. People still love traditional hard cover books. Who would like to sit in the bath with a computer in his hands to read one or two chapters of his favourite Ebook?

But in today’s fast online world, convenience of instant delivery and huge supply and variety on the market together with cheaper price - the Ebook is a fantastic product and has its place on the market. Ebooks are easy to store, file, and copy. You can write and publish your own Ebook for next to nothing and sell it for almost 100% profit over and over again. On the other hand – only shipping takes about 7-14% on average of sales of traditional hard cover books. So if you’re looking to work at home part-time or full-time and thinking about your options, Ebooks should definitely be on your list to consider.

- So where should I start?

Success: A Wholistic Perspective

July 29, 2007

The world has always been mixed with the rich, the poor and the middle ground. Should we assume that if you make more and more money, that you are more and more successful? Perhaps not…..looking at ourselves and life that way just keeps us trapped in our animal/primate history. You see in the animal/primate world, the big male controls all the sex and resources, he’s the successful one and those around him are less fortunate. This mentality has been the driving force in our political and financial life for all of human history. So, as we continue to evolve, this model seems a bit outdated, and not really a uniquely human definition. So, how can we define and create success from a more evolved position?

When I was growing up…way back in the 50s, a successful business person had an expensive car parked in their driveway, they had the house most could only dream of, and the beautiful wife as well. Things looked real good … but that was rarely the whole story. They also had an ulcer, drank and smoked to handle all the stress, was often on medication and lived with endless stress symptoms. Yet by the old model, they were successful inspite of the fact that they were in big trouble on the inside. However, this was normal and accepted as the norm at that time.

Your Sales Process Isnt

July 27, 2007

A lot of energy is expended within selling organizations as they try to identify, adopt, and administer a sales process that works for them. The holy grail of selling is to find a foolproof method for creating a customer, the ultimate finished product of the perfect sales process. Prepare to be disappointed.

Webster’s tells us that a process is “a particular method of doing something, generally involving a number of steps or operations.” By performing specific actions in a certain order on allowable inputs, we can produce a finished result that meets a predefined design specification. This works well in manufacturing, and in recurring activities that we find in other areas of our businesses.

We may even have certain processes that we use while we sell. But when we talk about the whole of selling, we need to avoid using the term “sales process” because no such thing exists. That’s because there is nothing we can do to reliably produce a customer as a finished result.

Loving What You Do

July 26, 2007

Man is a social animal and survival is his major need. There are needs that he needs be fulfill. The needs can be physical, mental, emotional and spiritual. A common thread that connects all the above need is a means to sustain physically. He can barter his skills to sustain himself.

If the urge to contribute physically arises then he can do physical labor, like bringing about movement on the physical level. If there is an urge to contribute mentally, he can choose to be an organizer, one who can overlap events and schedule activities. An emotional urge will be satisfied if he chooses to be a mentor. Spiritual urge can be addressed by spreading the word of the infinite.

The choice of his work mainly depends on his current frame of mind. Normally, a person chooses his profession depending on the market feasibility and the highest financial benefits. Though this seems to be the most obvious choice of choosing a profession but surely will lead him to be utterly frustrated and mentally unstable as time passes by if this is not in alignment with his life’s purpose.

Small Business Marketing: Specialize or Generalize?

July 24, 2007

There have been many great points raised on both sides of this discussion. In order to make a final decision, we must look at how the business world is moving and at the purchasing patterns of the consumers who will be utilizing your services.

The Internet has changed the way people look for services (personal and professional). For example: · If you do a search in Yahoo for a Personal Coach you will get 1.4 million matches. · If you refine your search to Personal Life Coach you will get 760,000 matches. · If you refine your search to Personal Career Coach you will get below matches. · If you refine your search to Weight Loss Coach you will get 80,000 matches. (search result numbers are subject to change)

Once you have selected the area of specialization you are interested in, you can then drill down into the results by location or other qualifying factors. As we are spending more and more time online, our patterns are shifting and adapting to more effectively navigate the over-abundance of information available. Web users know that in order to avoid a list of millions of possible matches, they must be more specific in their requests.

Powerful Networking: Focus on Building Connections, Not Closing Sales

July 24, 2007

You can find numerous references in the business literature about the importance of a company’s mission. These sources emphasize that the mission is not to make a profit; that a profit is the outcome of and reward for fulfilling the mission. In the same sense, the mission of networking is not to gain business and close sales. The mission of your networking activities is to make connections, develop relationships, and help others. The outcome of these activities will ultimately be increased business. It’s the reward, not the purpose.

Matt Soltis, in his book Strategic Networking, says, “Although an early supporter of business networking, I became quickly disillusioned with it as a mainstay of my marketing plan. I found that something was missing from those long sessions of glad-handing and exchanging business cards. I had collected a pocketful of business cards but little else.

“While I was analyzing my needs and talents it was pointed out by my personal coach that I had a behavioral style that lent itself to chatting, while listening took a back seat. How could I learn if I would not listen?
