Career Development - When Its Time for a Change

March 31, 2010

There’s a certain courage required to hear your gut. To really be true to how you are feeling. And that is never more important than in your career. Sometimes people feel that they are not completely happy. At other times they might have a sense of distance from the business or organisation they are in.This lack of ‘alignment’ makes for discomfort - and many people listen to it for the whole of their careers (and lives) and yet never truly hear it.So what are the clues that can help us realise that if change is in the air, it is a good thing, rather than something to fear? Here are 19 things to look out for:-

  • You feel bored
  • You actually yawn a lot
  • You get irritated easily
  • You find yourself daydreaming (maybe even looking out the window)
  • You get excited when something out of the ordinary happens
  • Each year feels repetitive
  • You get in late
  • You get sick a lot
  • Cynicism about your orgaisation starts to increase
  • You team up with your own people against the organisation
  • You have a sense of being ‘locked in’
  • You see others progress and wonder why
  • Sunday evenings are filled with dread
  • Some jobs are really hard to bring yourself to
  • Cycles repeat themselves (about 5-yearly)
  • ‘Grumpy’ is a description you overhear about yourself
  • You lose faith in ‘head office’ (often)
  • ‘Things ain’t what they used to be’
  • You find yourself muttering to yourself a lot (though this might be an age thing too!)

So what to do about it.

  • Are You Losing Business?

    March 30, 2010

As a small business owner, you are grateful for all of your clients or customers. But did you know that small business lose over 62% of sales because they don’t follow up? You are caught up in the business of running your business you don’t take the time to follow up with your clients.

After moving to a new city recently I’ve been, of course, searching out a new hair salon. The first place I tried was what seemed to be a very upscale salon that offered everything from hair cuts to nails to a massage. At this place I received on of my least favorite hair cuts. I tried two other places that gave a pretty good cut. The big surprise is that I’ve not received so much as a post card from any of the stylists requesting my return for my next cut.

How much business are these places missing out on? Tons if they don’t follow up with their clients. I had the same experience with a masseuse I found here also. Wow, imagine what would happen if they mailed out a monthly postcard; a quarterly newsletter; a monthly e-zine?

The Influence of People Who Surround You

    March 30, 2010

It is known that the human body sends out vibrations: some are positive, while others are negative. We have orbits formed by people who surround us and with whom we associate closely throughout our entire lives. In my book "The Art & Craft of Success: 10 Steps" by Ostaro, I expand fully on the impact people have upon us.

Through observation and experience we will notice that the association of a certain person or persons will help us finish a project successfully. It is not just a matter of know-how or funding what makes a venture a success. It is more than that. When a person constantly exercises a positive (harmonious) influence upon another human being, it has a great influence on the brain that gives rise to a clearer judgment of a situation or a better solution to a lingering problem. These processes go on quite unnoticed by people ? but they do work. In case of a negative person in our orbit, the result of a contradictory or negative vibration could lead to a bad judgment of a situation or problem, poor solutions and utter failure of the project.

Ebook Creation - Learning Step By Step
     by: Vickie J Scanlon

They say the best way to making money on the Internet, is to create your own Ebook. Wow! That’s a simple statement, but - do you know what is involved? I’ll try to explain what I have learned and I am learning while I’m creating my own Ebook.

    Brainstorming

If you know what you want to create, you’ve already on your way. But, if you’re not sure what information you have stored in your years of living - well, it can be difficult.

I’ve found the best way to brainstorm is to write your ideas, experiences and knowledge down on a piece of paper - then do research to determine what people are looking for on the net.

    Research

To determine if your product, idea, or info-knowledge will fly you must do research.

Go to WordTracker or Overture and see how many times people in the month were looking for what you want to write about. This will give you an idea if it is a viable product. Also do a straight search in Google and Yahoo for your keywords, and see what turns up. Investigate some of the sites, you may be surprised that you have a completely slant on the information you want to present in an E-book - which is a good thing.

Matrix Web Sites - Scam or NOT?

    March 28, 2010

While I am not talking about the movie “Matrix”, you may be wondering like many others if Matrix Web Sites are Legal!

Before answering this, you may know that there are some wonderful deals offered on the net, that will make you want to jump at it. Keep your shirt on. While you may be thinking that this one could be legal, the FTC may be knocking on your door. Let me assure you, when you participate, you had better make sure you KNOW what you are doing.

You are personally responsible for what YOU DO. If you have participated and have your own web site because of some BS that say, this is legal and we belong to the BBC, and look at our ICON at the lower right hand corner, then WISE up. Don’t fall for that. Do your own homework. Don’t take any ones word for it.

The water is very deep, go ahead, jump in head first, you will be okay! Nothing will happen to you. Trust me. I have done it lots of times. Ask any one. I can give you testimonies.

Applying The Daffodil Theory into Business Practice

    March 27, 2010

At times all of us need a bit of inspiration to add to our day. When I first read this article, I had started my own home based business and was in a bit of a slump. This inspirational story was exactly what helped spring me into action and keep on going.

I loved it so much that I thought why not share with other people in hopes it would have the same type of effect it had on me.

    THE DAFFODIL PRINCIPLE

Several times my daughter had telephoned to say, “Mother, you must come see the daffodils before they are over.” I wanted to go, but it was a two-hour drive from Laguna to Lake Arrowhead. “I will come next Tuesday,” I promised, a little reluctantly, on her third call.

Next Tuesday dawned cold and rainy. Still, I had promised, and so I drove there. When I finally walked into Carolyn’s house and hugged and greeted my grandchildren, I said, “Forget the daffodils, Carolyn! The road is invisible in the clouds and fog, and there is nothing in the world except you and these children that I want to see bad enough to drive another inch!” My daughter smiled calmly and said, “We drive in this all the time, Mother.”

Why I always Keep my Promises

    March 26, 2010

Integrity is very important to me, and I try hard to ‘do unto others as I would wish them do unto me’. It hasn’t always worked that way for me though. There have been times in my previous career - times that I can remember vividly even now - when promises were not kept, things were borrowed, never to be returned and where I was not on the best end of wheeling and dealing that are part of corporate politics. For me, creating honourable relationships with my people has always been important. It is a two-way street. Once when my wife was very ill, my management team told me not to come in, despite it being a very busy time. I told them, thank-you, and I would come and go, in the comfort that they thought enough of me; of us; to tell me to do that.I didn’t need to ask, but what they said to me at that time came from an environment of fairness, honesty and trust had grown over time. They knew that if it had been them, I would have offered the same.It was as if, as Steven Covey says, in ‘The Seven Habits of Highly Effective People’, I had enough credit in my ‘emotional bank account’ to tide me over. I’d never realised that I had that credit, but looking back, my standards and values were daily deposits. You get back what you give out. There’s no better time to start than right now.

How To Post Your First Ebay Auction in Five Simple Steps

How To Post Your First Ebay Auction in Five Simple Steps
     by: Ahmed S. Nassar

Ebay is the internet’s largest marketplace, and it’s an excellent place for buyers to find what they want at bargain prices, and for sellers to find buyers. If you haven’t posted an auction on ebay before, It’s fairly simple to post your first auction on eBay. Just do the following five steps.

Step 1: Open an eBay seller’s account.

Obviously, this is the first thing you need to do . If you’ve bought things on eBay, then you already have an account - just log in with it and click ‘Sell’ in the toolbar at the top of the page, then click ‘Create a seller’s account’. If you’ve never used eBay before, then you’ll need to open an account first using the ‘register’ link underneath the toolbar, and then click ‘Sell’ and ‘Create a seller’s account’. The eBay site will then guide you through the process. For security, this may involve giving card details and bank information.

Step 2: Decide what to sell.

More Scams! Do you Really Believe It?

    March 25, 2010

Quit spreading those chain letters, nothing is going to happen to you if you don’t mail it to the next person. However, there is a better chance that if you continue mailing, you may have the FTC on you. Chain letters are illegal even when they do not make a profit. But, this is another story. Most chains never make a profit except for the guy that starts it.

    1. Big companies don’t do business from chain letters.

    2. There is no kidney theft ring in New Orleans - No one is waking up in a bathtup full of ice, even if a friend of a friend swears it happened to their cousin.

    3. Neiman Marcus doesn’t really sell a $200 cookie recipe.

    4. There is no Good Times Virus

    5. The “Make A Wish Foundation” is a real organization doing fine work but they had to change their number because of all the hoaxes.

Really, If you are one of those people that forwards anything that promises “something bad will happen if you don’t” to late…. you’re a lost cause already! :>)

So you want to work at home

    March 24, 2010

There are several ways to work from home. Some of the more popular ways are affiliate programs, direct marketing and starting your own business. However it is also possible to find employers who hire people to work at home in various postions such as telemarketing, sales, teaching, freelance writing, etc. I have spent countless hours online searching for work at home jobs and even started a community to list the job leads I have found. (http://www.real-home-employment.com)

You may wish you could start tomorrow, but honestly it could take six months to a year until you open for business or find a job. I wish I could offer you some time kind of timeline to success but it just isn’t possible. I know we all see alot of ads that offer overnight success or thousands of dollars per hour earned, but the honest truth is most home businesses take 5 years of hard work before you may even see these types of returns and the higher percentage of work at home jobs you find are on a per need basis or start out part time.
